The Berimbao, gunga or viola is a musical instrument of the family of Brazilian struck strings. This is undoubtedly a musical bow of African origin (traditional instrument of the people Kambas) that similar varieties are also used in the Indian Ocean: bobre Réunion, Rodrigues good.   Today, it is primarily the main instrument of capoeira (or Moringue, cousin of capoeira in the Indian Ocean) but it is also used in other forms of Brazilian music. Its name derives from that of the Jew's harp in Spanish and Portuguese. He was taken early in Brazil, together slaves by the Portuguese, since there is no trace of musical bow in indigenous tribes.
