The bombarde is a double reed musical instrument of the oboe family, used in old music  and Breton music. The word "bombarde" comes from the Latin bombus, meaning "buzz"  or “thump”. This is a popular oboe variant specific to Brittany. In Breton the instrument is called ar vombard (bombard mutation) 1 or year talabard. A bombarde player is called a bombarder (bombardir in “Vannetais” Pays), but the term talabarder has been adopted more recently in the bagadoù community. The bombarde is traditionally associated with the biniou to form what is called a pair of ringers.
