The ukulele is a traditional Hawaiian plucked string instrument, close to the cavaquinho, a popular instrument from Portugal of which it is an adaptation. Very fashionable in the first half of the 20th century, this small versatile instrument, essential component of a Hawaiian orchestra, was quickly adopted by various musical movements, from popular song to jazz, sometimes because it brought a humorous or exotic dimension to an ensemble. The version presented is a Motu, a very compact instrument derived from the Ukulele, developed by a luthier from the  island of Oléron.
