The rabâb or Rubab, roubab, Robab, rebab, means two families of stringed instruments including the soundboard
is skin. The term is attested from the tenth century musicologist at Farabi.
We distinguish between old, string instruments first, and lutes, plucked instruments, on the other hand.
All these instruments have spread throughout the Muslim world, from Morocco to Indonesia, but curiously,
both families seem exclusive to each other, except in Iran.
