Lute (from the Arabic al-`ūd) is a plucked string instrument. The term also refers generally
any instrument with strings parallel to handle. Although close to the guitar,
Lute had a different and distinct history, both instruments have coexisted in
periods of the main music. It is of Persian origin (barbat) for the general form and Arabic
